Autologous Platelet Gel research began in the early 1980's. The President of PerStat, James Parrish, was one of the leading founders of concentrated platelet healing techniques.

Once activated at the wound site, platelets were found to release many growth factors from spicules rapidly protruding from the platelet cell. Studies of platelets, and their growth factors, have shown that in vitro tissue cultures remarkably improve by the addition of platelet-derived growth factors (PDGF).

Platelet gel is an autologous source of a concentrated mix of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), along with transforming growth factor-beta (TGF). When used in surgery, operations, post-operative procedures, or wound healing, platelet gel improves healing time, decreases pain, decreases the risks of infection, and promotes bone regeneration.
