As a member of the open heart surgical team, the perfusionist must maintain licensing in order to operate extracorporeal circulation, and autotransfusion equipment during any medical situation, including the circulation of blood during open-heart surgery. Certification requires Continuing Education Units such as that of the ABCP. In order to maintain a Texas Perfusion license, a Continuing Education report must be filed, along with the annual renewal process.

Recertification through the Texas Department of State Health Services requires clinical perfusionists to submit both a renewal form, and certification fee before the date of expiration. For a one year perfusion renewal, the cost is $181; two years requires a fee of $362.

Renewing a clinical perfusion license in the State of Texas can be done online, at: Texas Perfusion License Renewal, or via mail.
